Zoover is an independent review platform that helps millions of users find their holiday. Finding a holiday is not that easy, there are lots of struggles to find your ideal holiday. At Zoover worked on solving these problems.
Zoover is known as an independent review platform. They saw an opportunity to switch their business model from an affiliate model to becoming an Online Travel Agency. This was a huge challenge and an incredible journey to be part of. I worked with everyone in the organisation to reach this goal, from engineers to customer service agents.

Before we started building we did a lot of upfront research. Were user interested and willing to book with Zoover? An external company (Brand doctors) helped us with the research. From focus groups, surveys to usability tests. We tried to learn as much as possible before we started building. In total we did 4 usability tests within 9 months, where we tried to learn from each iteration.

Focus group research - behind the scenes
One of the loading animation iterations, done with Principle
When we were building the booking tool, we quickly found out that loading the holiday packages occasionally could take some time. Therefor I wanted to make the loading time appear as short as possible. We chunked the loading time in phases, so the perceived loading time would be reduced. I worked together with Yup Nguyen to create an amazing loading animation.

We spent 1 year developing an MVP, which we succesfully launched at the beginning of december 2019.
Ever since we migrated the product to a new tech stack, I always felt that the brand was disconnected from the product. We worked on updating on the brand. We looked at colors, typography, images, shape and many more elements.

Shape explorations for the review score
We wanted to show human side of the brand. As Zoover is known for their independent reviews, we had an idea for review score. We explored organic shapes. Shapes you would find in nature.

We learned that the more detail the shape had, the less recognisable it became. So we kept the shape simple. We used universal rules, where up is positive, down is negative, left is in the past and to the right is in the future. So we incoperated this idea in the angle of the shape.

Typography exploration

Color exploration
When I joined Zoover there was no design system or any design documention. To speed up design iterations and consistency we created a design system. We used Abstract (version control system) and Sketch (design tool) to create our own Design Language System, which we use on a daily basis. We use the atomic design methodology to organise the DLS.
